HOLY CRAP!!!!!! I don’t think I’ll EVER get another flu shot again! Until I get the damn flu again…then I will SWEAR to God almighty above that I will never go without it again!!!! That is USUALLY the way this cycle goes with me.
I have worked with the public for 21 years as a barber and it never ceases to amaze me how many people will come in to get a haircut when they are too sick to go to work. They have fevers and tell you that they have been sick for 3,4, even 5 days but just HAD to get out of the house. REALLY?!? So you leave and go to a place where you are in VERY CLOSE proximity with another person that actually is trying to make a living by cutting your hair and they have to touch you. Why would you ever think that that hairdresser would appreciate your business at that moment?
It’s because of behavior like that which has made me love and sometimes hate the flu shot. In all honesty I can’t tell you if it is a good idea or not. There have been years that I didn’t take it and I got the flu and thought I was going to DIE! Not like die a little bit mind you, like I thought I was going to meet Elizabeth up in heaven with Fred Sanford kind of die! I actually had the flu so bad one time I HOPED for DEATH to take me. I was READY to DIE! That particular flu landed me in the hospital for 3 days, 2 months pregnant and severely dehydrated. I had lost 10 lbs in 2 days. My dehydration was so severe that it took the nurses 12 sticks before they finally got a vein to give me intravenous fluids.
There were also times that I got the flu shot and never got the flu, never had any symptoms from the shot and those were good years. Was it the luck of the draw? Who knows? I have even gotten the flu shot and got a mild case of the flu too I just considered myself lucky I got the shot and figured that was why the flu wasn’t as bad as I have had it in the past. Some people say getting the flu shot is a MUST and they won’t miss a year without it. Others are completely against it. I have been a huge proponent of it since the year I got it and thought I was going to die. Well, you would be too if you had it like I did!
So after some research on this topic I could easily be swayed against it again. Our government’s Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will strongly urge Americans to get a flu shot. Health officials will say that every winter 5—20 percent of the population catches the flu, 200,000 people are hospitalized, and 36,000 people will die from it. Yet here’s an interesting fact I found, 70% of doctors do NOT get a flu shot!
Three serious, acknowledged adverse reactions to the flu vaccine are joint inflammation and arthritis, anaphylactic shock (and other life-threatening allergic reactions), and Guillain-Barré syndrome. Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is a paralytic autoimmune disease that fells people several weeks after their flu shot. There is even some evidence that the flu vaccine can cause Alzheimer’s disease due to the synergistic affect of combining mercury with aluminum and formaldehyde. Wait a minute, MERCURY, ALUMINUM and FORMALDEHYDE??? Stop the PRESS right there! You know I am a HUGE proponent of eating clean and taking care of our bodies but I didn’t even consider for a minute that these were the things flu shots were made of!
I encourage you all to do your own homework and to make an educated decision on the flu shots yourself. I just had mine on Friday of last week and I can tell you that today I am still tired and have not had the energy that I normally do to get through my workouts this weekend. After reading what I have today I am just thankful that I am not a hypochondriac or I might think that I have Guillain-Barré syndrome for sure and that my brain is turning to mush as Alzheimer’s disease is surely not far behind.
Ask your doctor if he or she gets the flu shot themselves. Read up on what is in the flu shot and whether you decide to get it or not this year, wash your hands often and for the love of God, stay home when you are sick and save the rest of us from your germs. I for one thank you in advance.
