In the Pursuit of Sunshine

In the Pursuit of Sunshine

My life seems to always be in the pursuit of more sunshine. Too many grey days in a row can change my normally sunny demeanor and make me not want to get out of bed.  Just like I need sunshine to make me happy, what I do for a living is just as important to me and it needs to set my soul on fire.

Did you know that Vincent van Gogh was manic depressive. The poor man could barely function half the time in day to day life. He never saw success in his lifetime, yet his art is often regarded as the greatest painting ever done by any artist to this day! (I personally believe this is because his art was therapy to him.) Today he is a hero in the eyes of artists around the world who have been repeatedly told they weren’t good enough.

I believe he painted what made him happy and filled his time with as much of that as he could to stay sane. I also thing he must have loved the sunshine as much as me because he painted it a lot. 🙂

Van Gogh once said, “Even the knowledge of my own fallibility cannot keep me from making mistakes. Only when I fall do I get up again.”

Let that sink in for a minute….

If you follow me on Facebook, you know my heart has been heavy lately. I haven’t been quite my usual cheery self (as a Coach) the last few months so I’ve been spending more time working in the sunshine with my hubby, evaluating my life (where I’m at and where I want to be) and just unplugging more and doing more of what makes me happy.

As I look at where I’m at in my business I see clearly that I’m nowhere near where I hoped to be at this stage (I’ve been an online Coach for 5 years). Actually things have gone backwards the last few months in my business and I know it’s because my heart just isn’t in it the way it used to be.

I’m happiest when I’m working with people one on one, sharing what’s worked for me and truly seeing them get successful in reaching their goals.

My belief in what I do as an online coach has faltered in many aspects for different reasons. Don’t get me wrong, I believe 100% in the benefits of exercise and eating a balanced diet filled with good whole nutrition. Shakeology has been a Godsend for my health and it truly has helped so many people I personally know to improve their health on a LOT of levels. I believe in sharing my story and helping others…I just feel the methods are out of whack.

The “Beachbody coaching” aspect is where I’m struggling big time.

When I joined Beachbody as a Coach, I believed in the products first and foremost because they worked for me and others I knew and I also believed that coaching would bring me more freedom to live life on my terms. I believed that if I did everything my leaders told me that I would be wildly successful in a few years.

While I’ve been mildly successful, I certainly have not been “wildly” successful as I had hoped by now and believe me when I tell you… I put in the effort and I did the daily activities and achieved the milestones they said would make me successful and it has NOT happened.

I built a presence on social media. I encouraged and motivated and changed a lot of lives along the way and I have NO REGRETS about that at all but… that’s the part I love!

But I’ve come to resent the “business” in a few ways too.

Too much time spent on social media. Too many unethical, uncaring and unhelpful coaches out there giving the good ones (and there ARE a LOT of GOOD ONES – if you want a recommendation, let me know and I’ll happily pass one to you) a bad rap. Too much promise of a big reward with very little return for the effort it takes to achieve it and now realizing that no matter how bad I want to be successful or believe in this opportunity…. I can’t be sure that the people that join my team will ever do what it takes to move up in this business and if they don’t, neither do I. So the power is out of my hands, just like it is in a traditional job.

I know you’ve heard the saying that “You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink.”, well that really holds true in this business. I want desperately to help my clients achieve their health & fitness goals as well as help the coaches that have joined my team become great leaders and live a better life while helping others too. Some do but many more don’t.

As a network marketer you HAVE to be willing to invest your time, be willing to build relationships and be a part of something you believe in. It’s a BUSINESS just like any other business but YOU OWN IT and your SUCCESS or FAILURE pretty much rests in how hard you are willing to work for it. I’ve seen 100s of coaches become HUGELY SUCCESSFUL but I’ve learned that it comes a a cost that I’m not willing to pay myself.

The problem is… most people are lazy or just too busy these days. Plain and simple. They have big dreams for a month or two then they dwindle and when the success doesn’t happen fast enough they quit before they really get started.

Some of them even REALLY want it too. They love the products, stay consistent in their journey but don’t share the power of the opportunity enough. THAT is a hard pill for me to swallow. Part of the reason I joined this multi level network marketing company was because I wanted to be my own boss, set my own hours (have more FREEDOM) and remove the income ceiling that you get when you work a regular job with regular hours and a boss that has the say on wether or not you get a raise.

That being said… Money has never been a big motivator for me. I don’t want a mansion or a BMW but I WOULD LOVE to live in a modest house on the beach someday and if I can pay my bills and travel a few times a year and continuously grow my income and work from anywhere on my phone while I do it, even better! But what REALLY sets my soul on fire and drew me in is knowing that I had the ability to TRULY making a difference in the lives of others.

I never wanted to just sell people a product or sign them up to join my team for profit… I really wanted to help them be successful by their own definition.

Instead what I’m seeing is a very flawed system.

  • Yo-yo dieters. Losing 20- 30 pounds and quitting and doing it again months later.
  • People wanting a quick fix. I know, I know…it’s human nature and that’s not gonna change but FOR REAL Y’ALL… we gotta get rid of that mentality! I want to help people get healthy FOR LIFE!
  • The promise of “easy money” made by “spamming” your friends on Facebook. (I admit, I’m guilty of this too, it’s what I was taught and it felt icky and I hated it!)
  • Customers switching coaches to get whatever incentive another coach is offering to get points to sell a challenge pack for points to help them earn another trip.
  • Coaches changing teams because a top coach is promising them “better training” and a fast track to success.

The truth is… there is NO EASY BUTTON when it comes to getting healthier OR wealthier.

We HAVE to eat right, fuel up on WHOLE FOODS and it won’t matter how many freaking calories you eat because you will get FULL on DENSE NUTRITION.

And when it comes to business… whatever you are doing, have some INTEGRITY for God sakes!!! Put in your time. Help enough people be successful and you’ll be successful too. Laziness is not a quality that breeds success. You have to be dedicated and believe 100% that what you are doing is serving a purpose. I truly believe that to this day, but in this business… I’ve seen enough sleazy sales tactics and  “poaching” of coaches (luring coaches to switch to other teams) to last a lifetime and it’s truly put a BAD taste in my mouth.

So what will you see from me in the future???

That’s a great question. Hopefully more sunshine and palm trees like in this picture! 😉 See the heart in the trees? I took this photo in Mexico a few years ago. It always makes me happy when I see it.

I’m not one to be a quitter. I’m also not a one foot in, one foot out kind of gal either.

I’ve been doing a LOT of soul searching, praying and researching to find ways I can still make a difference in the lives of others.

When I decide what’s right for me and my clients and friends and family, I won’t post it on Facebook or Instagram. I won’t make a video about it… I don’t think….  but I will be updating this website and making it more of a “heart and soul” sort of blog space instead of so much of sales website. I want to highlight my clients transformations, share stories of people’s struggles and success and be more relatable and human and more than anything… I want to hear from YOU and talk about what matters most to you in YOUR LIFE.

Please feel free to comment below and let me know your thoughts. ideas or suggestions. I’m all ears and open to all the GOOD VIBES & PRAYERS I can get!

Peace out!

XOXO
