People always want to know how I got to be so positive and motivational. They want to know if I was born this way. The challengers in my Challenge Groups often ask if I was a cheer leader in high school. The truth is I just CHOSE to be this way. We all have our baggage so to speak, I just choose not to carry mine with me through my daily life. I hear people everyday use their past as an excuse for not turning their life around today. I hear them complain about their childhoods, their parents, their circumstances etc. I am here to tell you that my childhood wasn’t so wonderful either. I was raised in a pretty abusive home and did not have an easy childhood. I felt alone and unloved most of the time. I won’t go into details as I don’t like to dwell on the past. I have forgiven those that hurt me and I have used those experiences to make me a better person. I have no regrets. My past has shaped me. I am not a victim of anything I am a liver of life, just like everyone else. I guess you could say that it molded me somehow to be mentally strong and independent. I have USED my past to BETTER myself and have always promised myself a better future. I always knew I wanted a better life and that it would depend on ME to get it and to tell you the truth, knowing that EMPOWERED me but it didn’t make it any easier. Throughout the years I have always gravitated towards happy, positive people because they uplifted me and made me feel good to be around them. I wanted to BE like them but it took many years to crawl out of the protective shell I had built around myself.
Throughout the years life got harder and the people I found myself surrounded with (other than my husband of course) were not so positive. There is so much negativity in the world that it weighed extremely heavy on me for a long time. The people at work were depressing me, the news on TV was depressing and it seemed to me for a while that NO ONE was happy anymore, including ME. I decided to DO SOMETHING about it one day. I KNEW it was time to TAKE CONTROL and BETTER MYSELF. I stopped Watching TV, started taking classes and reading personal development every day. I started to SHARE the words of wisdom that was making me feel better with other people daily and the next thing you know, others that surrounded me were happier people too.
What is personal development? It is books or audio that feeds your soul by authors like Tony Robbins’ Awaken The Giant, Jeff Olson’s The Slight Edge, Tony Dungy’s The Mentor Leader, Chalene Johnson’s Push. 10 minutes a day of reading a book or listening to audio versions of these books can and WILL change your life! Oprah Winfrey said, “Surround yourself with people that only lift you higher!” and that is a WONDERFUL quote. These authors made me believe that I can do anything and I am here to tell you guys that YOU CAN DO ANYTHING TOO!!!! When you turn off the negativity in your life, steer clear of the naysayers and surround yourself by positive, influential people you have no choice but to be more positive and influential to others too!
I urge you to start taking 10 minutes a day to read or listen to some Personal Development. Even if you just look up positive quotes on the Internet for 5 minutes every morning to start with, DO IT!!! It will change your mindset and change your life! Next thing you know, YOU might be the ripple effect that changes someone else’s life too!
