When it comes to exercise and diet people often wonder which is more important.  I often wonder why they ask this question, as if they are trying to find a way to justify ignoring one or the other.  The truth is, and you already know the truth, you need both if you want to reach your fitness goals.

To build that lean athletic look that most of us strive for you have to build your muscles with strength training.  However, if your diet is a mess then you will not be able to see any of that new muscle growth.  But, if your diet is on point, but your training is off you could be in decent shape and just be skinny without much tone.

Personally I prefer to combine both.  It is the quickest way to reach the goals I have set for myself. I cannot stress enough how important a clean diet is to your progress.  Another little saying that is even closer to true is “you can’t out train a crappy diet”.  So what are the keys to a solid diet plan?

Top 5 Diet Tips

  1. Eat  lean protein with each meal.
  2. Eat fruits and/or vegetables with each food meal.
  3. Make sure that your carbohydrate intake comes from fruits and vegetables.
  4. Ensure that 25-35% of your energy intake comes from fat, with your fat intake split equally between saturates, monounsaturates, and polyunsaturates.
  5. Drink only non-calorie containing beverages, the best choices being water and green tea.

That really is all there is to it.  Honestly, a good diet is as simple or as difficult as you make it.  That is why I was happy to find Shakeology.  It definitely has helped me get my diet under control.  It helps me get the vitamins and minerals that I need to support my workouts, and it tastes great.
